Congratulations to the U13 girls’ netball team who won the IAPS netball regionals last week. They are now U13 champions for both hockey and netball – an incredible achievement!

Despite the long drive down to King’s Bruton the girls were really up for the tournament. Their first match was against All Hallows which the girls won with a score of 12-0.  They then played Hazelgrove, who are usually strong, but on this occasion the girls won again with a great score 12-3. The third match was against Yateley Manor; at half time the score was 2-2 but the girls raised their game to win 9-4; this turned out to be our closest match of the day. After a break the final pool match was against Sherborne who the girls beat 10-4.

After lunch the team beat Walhampton in the semi-final, followed by the final where they faced Danes Hill winning 11-1. The girls were unbeaten throughout the tournament and gained themselves a place at the National finals in three weeks’ time.

Throughout the day the eight girls who played gave everything out on the court. The number of interceptions made was impressive as were the turn overs made from close marking. Many thanks go to Katie and Macy who came incase of injury and were uncomplaining and forever helpful!

Emma Bailey, Head of Girls’ Games said, “Well done, girls; it was a pleasure to see you play such mature netball. I have never had a team so dominant at a tournament before!”

The best of luck for the National finals in three weeks’ time.
