The end of another full and busy week is upon us and today we are excited about welcoming prospective pupils and parents to our Open Day. It is always a great pleasure to open our doors and welcome visitors.

This week saw the U14 girls’ hockey team progress through to the Regional round of the Hockey Championships and the U18’s won the Regionals to progress through to the West Finals. The following day the U18 Netball Squad played very well to finish 4th out of the 16 schools competing in the County Championships.

Yesterday we enjoyed our first Mufti Day of the year raising awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Now, an initiative put forward by an enthusiastic group of new 4th Form girls. The school was certainly more colourful as the pupils donned their pink clothing in support of charity.

Tower House Charity Fundraiser – Sunday 16 October

On Sunday 16 October, Mr Poxon and a number of boys and staff from Tower House, will be running/jogging/walking 5 or 10km to raise money for the charity Reverse Rett. Rett Syndrome is a devastating illness, which scientists hope, with further research, can be completely reversed. After charity organiser Beth Whitley spoke to the Tower House boys last week, a number decided to get behind the fund raising by joining in with the Change is Possible run. Half Term Cookery Workshop Reminder

This term we were extremely excited to open a brand new Cookery School here at Dean Close. This purpose built, state-of-the-art cookery facility, with its nine professional kitchen areas and demonstration bar, provides the space and equipment to encourage and inspire chefs of all abilities.

As well as benefiting current pupils, the facility allows us to run children’s cookery workshops during the holidays. The fun, one-day workshops are open to all, from ages 9to 13+ and will take place this October half term. The day will involve young chefs cooking their own lunch and even preparing a tasty treat to take home, all with seasonal Autumnal flavour!

For further details and more information about this workshop, please do not hesitate to contact Lydia Day on 01242 258023 or by email at lday@deanclose.org.uk
