World Book Day was celebrated in style this year at ‘The Squirrels’ with everyone dressing up as their favourite character, and we had a visit from author and illustrator Karen George.
The Early Years’ children were treated to a reading of Wake Up Do, Lydia Lou, after which they enjoyed a creative story sequencing activity related to the book. Later, the pupils in Years One and Two listened to Hugh Shampoo about a little boy who never wants to wash his hair – pupils then made messy hair, which contained worms, snails and other strange items! The rest of the day was full of other exciting activities, which included a parade to the Prep School, where the children had the chance to display their fantastic costumes. Pupils then shared their favourite book with a buddy and read together, when pupils from Years One and Two visited the Early Years.
World Book Day provided many super opportunities for children to find out more about the range of books around us and to engage in lots of fun activities which enhanced their learning and development.
