The Year Two children had a very exciting day at Gloucestershire Airport as part of their Flight topic. First stop for the morning was trying out a private jet (somewhat more luxurious from our normal mode of travel!), next destination was the Airport Terminal, where the children had their passports checked before collecting their boarding passes and going through security. Even though all flights were cancelled due to freezing fog, everyone had a fascinating time and looked at some other planes and helicopters in one of the hangers – the fire engines were even driven out for an inspection! The final visit for the morning was to Rise Helicopters where everyone had the chance to take the controls of a helicopter to see how it would feel to fly one!
We all had lunch at the Jet Age Museum and then the children participated in seven exciting activities including: looking at jet engines, a presentation on the history of flight, seeing artefacts from the war, going into the cockpit of a Trident plane and a Spitfire.
It was a super day even if it was very cold, and the children learnt lots of new information to take back to school for their Flight topic.
