As part of their Religious Studies syllabus, DCPS Year 8 recently visited Gloucester Mosque to learn more about the religion of Islam.
On arrival, the group was met by Imam Hassan who showed them around and gave a fascinating talk about Muslim beliefs and practices. The pupils were interested to find out about the Five Pillars and especially enjoyed listening to the Imam sing prayers in Arabic. They also liked seeing the special washroom where Muslims perform Wudu – a ritual purification – before prayer.
Imam Hassan then showed the pupils how to write in Arabic and even wrote some of their names for them to keep.
Head of Religious Studies, Mrs Salisbury said, “We had a really informative day. Visiting the Mosque has definitely helped to expand pupils’ understanding of the Muslim faith and its history.”
