Year One celebrated Chinese New Year by dressing up in red and wearing Chinese clothes. The children enjoyed finding out about China, which is part of the Around the World topic, through a range of activities including art, dance and literature. The story of the Chinese New Year was enjoyed on the interactive whiteboard, which gave everyone opportunities for shared reading and to find out how speech bubbles are used to show characters’ direct speech. The children took part in a quiz, wrote their names in Chinese letters, made dragon masks, performed a dragon dance, practised martial arts movements, tasted Chinese cooking, made a Chinese menu and found facts about pandas and the Great Wall.
